The secondary teacher education for comprehensive science with a biology major licensure program provides appropriate learning experiences to meet the needs, capabilities, and interests of high school students studying science with a biology focus. The program is designed to assist individuals in acquiring knowledge, developing skills and dispositions within a learning environment focused on active involvement and integrated learning activities. This program is available as a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Arts.
To complete the secondary grades teacher education program and earn licensure in science for grades 9-12, students must complete the requirements for general education and the biology major, as well as the following licensure requirements.
Students must be admitted in the Teacher Education Program to enroll.

Biology Major Concentration Courses – 59 credit hours
Required Majors Courses – 36 credit hours
Required Electives – 23 credit hours
Biology Electives (12 credit hours from additional BIO courses, PHS/BIO-301 or PHS-302)
BIO 205, BIO 225, BIO 326, BIO 358 are required for Licensure

Professional Education, General
Must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program to enroll in EDU 305, EDU 434, EDU 436.
Professional Education, Methods
3-5 credit hours of Methods as appropriate to the required concentration.
Internship – last semester of teacher education program
Must be admitted to the Teacher Education Program to enroll in EDU 460 and EDU 490.
