Call 911 immediately if you or someone you are assisting is experiencing a life-threatening emergency. If you are on-campus, call Campus Police at (919) 760-8888 immediately thereafter to report an emergency situation. Campus Police will give callers instructions and will direct emergency vehicles to the correct location
What is a mental health emergency?
If you answer yes to any of the questions below, you may be experiencing a mental health crisis. Please seek assistance.
- Have you experienced a personal, psychological, or physical trauma recently?
- Has your level of distress increased significantly or have you had a drastic change in functioning?
- Has someone asked you to come to the Counseling Center or another mental health resource?
- Are you having thoughts or have you made a plan to hurt yourself or others?
An immediate emergency response is required in these situations:
- Suicidal behaviors or gestures
- Self-injury needing immediate medical attention
- Highly erratic or unusual behavior
- Mental confusion or disorientation
- Out-of-control behavior
- Serious side effects to psychotropic medications
What are my resources if I am experiencing a mental health emergency?
Meredith College Counseling Center
During the fall and spring academic semesters
- Talk with a counselor during Crisis Hour, 1:00-2:00 p.m., Monday—Friday by dropping by 208 Student Health & Wellness Center. You may also call (919) 760-8427 to schedule a telehealth Zoom or phone session.
- Call the on-call counselor. The Counseling Center offers an on-call counselor 24 hours per day, 7 days per week throughout the academic year for students in crisis. Call the Critical Response Team at (919) 612-6350 or Campus Police at (919) 760-8888 to reach the on-call counselor. A Critical Response Team member or security officer will contact the on-call counselor who will call the student directly. Please note: There is no on-call counselor available during the winter recess or over the summer.
