Undergraduate Research Grants Awarded

Undergraduate Research is thriving at Meredith, providing important opportunities for students to work closely with faculty and gain valuable experience that speaks to both career and graduate school settings.

Meredith College supports undergraduate research in many ways, including providing grants for research and travel. This fall, the Undergraduate Research Program awarded seven research grants and four travel grants. These competitive grants were awarded in the following disciplines: biology, exercise and sports science, English, and chemistry.

According to Undergraduate Research Director Paul Winterhoff, travel grants give students the opportunity to present at high-level conferences, where Meredith undergraduate students often present alongside graduate students. Research grants play an equally important role.

“Research grants enable students to conduct research that departments may not otherwise be able to fund through their budgets,” said Winterhoff. “Such grants allow students to pursue important research in collaboration with their professors – they also give students a chance to apply for competitive grants.”

The next application deadline for undergraduate research travel and research grants is October 28.
