Professor of Fashion Merchandising & Design Diane Ellis to Present Faculty Distinguished Lecture

Professor of Fashion Merchandising & Design Diane Ellis will deliver Meredith College’s 2019 Faculty Distinguished Lecture on Monday, October 7, 2019, at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium. Her lecture topic is “Planet Fashion: Our Clothes. Our Industry. Our Planet.”
In her Faculty Distinguished Lecture, Ellis will focus on innovations and environmental issues in the fashion industry, sharing research on the latest fabrics on the market and on the environmental impact of current industry practices and of rising consumption. She will also offer insight on what consumers can do to make a positive change.
In addition to her role as professor, Ellis serves as Meredith’s Fashion Merchandising & Design Program Coordinator. A Meredith faculty member since 1982, she is also a visiting professor for Paris American Academy in Paris, France, each summer. Prior to joining the Meredith faculty, she had a varied career in the fashion industry, in roles including store manager, buyer, sales manager, distribution supervisor, interior designer, and apparel designer.
Ellis is a member of the International Textiles and Apparel Association and is on the Advisory Committee of the Paris American Academy. She has won three awards during her tenure at Meredith for excellence in artistic expression and teaching and for outstanding service to the college.
The Faculty Distinguished Lecture was designed to represent a significant achievement of research by a faculty member. The first lecture was presented in 1964 by Professor of English Norma Rose.
This event is free and open to the public. The lecture counts as an Academic/Cultural Event for General Education for Meredith students. The Faculty Distinguished Lecture is sponsored by Meredith’s convocation committee.
