Meredith Signs Agreements to Benefit Arts Students at N.C. Community Colleges

Meredith College has signed new articulation agreements that will make transferring to Meredith easier for students attending a North Carolina community college.
The articulation agreements will allow students pursuing Music, Theatre, or Fine Arts at North Carolina’s community colleges to seamlessly transfer to Meredith in order to complete a bachelor’s degree in one of those disciplines.
Meredith Provost Matthew Poslusny, N.C. Community College System President Peter Hans, and North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities President Hope Williams signed the articulation agreement today at a ceremony held at William Peace University.
“Meredith’s visual and performing arts bachelor’s degree programs have a strong track record of preparing graduates for professional success,” said Poslusny. “Through these new articulation agreements, associate in fine arts degree recipients will have greater access to the opportunities a bachelor’s degree from Meredith affords.”
During the ceremony, three articulation agreements were signed:
• 33 community colleges are approved to offer the AFA in Fine Arts and 14 private colleges signed the Fine Arts agreement;
• 18 community colleges are approved for the AFA in Music and 15 private colleges signed the Music agreement; and
• 11 community colleges are approved for the AFA in Theatre and 11 private colleges signed the Theatre agreement.
Meredith College signed on to all three of the agreements.
Leaders at several other N.C. private colleges also participated in the ceremony.
“The signing of these agreements is another important step in increasing opportunities with our community college colleagues for transfer to NCICU campuses,” Williams said. “These are extensions of our comprehensives agreement and will help streamline the transfer process.”
“If you’re a visual arts student, a theatre student, or a music student working toward your Associate in Fine Arts degree, you will know what courses you need to take at the community college. And you will have peace of mind in knowing that upon acceptance to the private college or university, those courses will transfer,” Hans said. “These agreements are examples of how we’re simplifying processes and aligning better with our partners to accelerate students’ progress.”
The agreements provide a progression degree plan that includes required general education and prerequisite courses that are acceptable to all signatory programs. The NCICU Board approved the agreements on November 9, 2018, and the State Board of Community Colleges approved them on February 14, 2019. The agreements will go into effect with the 2019 fall semester.
Meredith College signed on in order to make a Meredith degree more accessible to transfer students.
“As someone who attended a community college myself, it brings me great joy to help open up more pathways for associate degree students to more seamlessly complete four-year degrees at Meredith,” Poslusny said.
