Meredith College Board of Trustees Approves New Nursing Program

The Board of Trustees at Meredith College has officially approved the establishment of a new nursing program, marking a pivotal moment in the institution’s history in response to the critical shortage of nurses in N.C. and the nation.

This decision comes after rigorous evaluation and planning by Meredith College’s leadership and faculty. With the unanimous support of the Board of Trustees, the nursing program has been given the green light to proceed to the next phase of development. The program will now undergo review by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, which grants approval to prelicensure nursing programs in the state.

The Board of Trustees’ approval of the nursing program underscores Meredith College’s dedication to meeting the evolving needs of North Carolinians, particularly in the healthcare industry and the broader community. As demand for skilled healthcare professionals continues to rise, the addition of a nursing program will provide students with valuable opportunities to pursue rewarding careers in nursing while addressing the critical shortage of healthcare workers in North Carolina and beyond.

“We are thrilled to announce the approval of Meredith College’s new nursing program by our forward-thinking Board of Trustees,” said Dr. Jo Allen, President of Meredith College. “This milestone reflects our ongoing commitment to academic excellence and our mission to prepare students for lives of leadership and service. We look forward to working closely with the North Carolina Board of Nursing to ensure that our program meets the highest standards of quality and prepares future nurses to make a positive impact in healthcare.”

“The nursing program at Meredith College will offer a comprehensive curriculum designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and clinical experience needed to excel in a variety of healthcare settings,” said Dr. Matthew Poslusny, Provost and Senior Vice President of Meredith College. “Through a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on training, and real-world learning opportunities, students will develop the critical thinking, communication, and compassionate care skills that are essential for success in the nursing profession.”

Students will benefit from personalized attention and mentorship from experienced faculty members who are dedicated to their success. The program will also emphasize the importance of ethical practice, cultural competence and lifelong learning, preparing students to be ethical leaders and advocates for patients’ care, healthcare equity and justice.
