Meredith College Adds Graduate Assistantships

Meredith College Graduate Programs will offer a graduate assistantship (GA) program beginning in Fall 2020.

There will be a total of four graduate assistantships available during the launch year, one for each of the College’s master’s level programs, which include business, education, nutrition, and psychology. Each assistantship will require on-campus work that enhances the student’s teaching and/or research skills in exchange for remission of a portion of the student’s tuition.

GAs will work in conjunction with a faculty supervisor to develop a plan of general responsibilities as well as specific tasks and any special projects. Students in the program will work an average of ten hours per week on research or as teaching assistants.

“We are thrilled to be able to initiate this GA program at Meredith College. It comes about through a lot of hard work and problem solving by various graduate program directors who saw an opportunity to provide additional educational experiences for our graduate students in all four of our masters programs,” said Senior Vice President and Provost Matthew Poslusny. “This program, which we hope to expand in the future, will offer a limited number of students the opportunity to gain additional work experience at the same time having a reduction in their tuition expenses.”

The GA program is beneficial to students and faculty. The goals of the program include providing students graduate-level hands-on learning experiences through collaboration and direct supervision with experienced faculty and providing high quality teaching and research support, within a mentoring relationship, to faculty members in graduate programs.
