Meredith Alumnae Ring NYSE Closing Bell for Charity

On November 22, Meredith College alumnae Gretchen Holt Witt, ’89, and Emily Necessary Fowler, ’98, led a group of enthusiastic kids in the ringing of the closing bell at The New York Stock Exchange.

Witt is the founder of Cookies for Kids’ Cancer, a national non-profit that inspires individuals and communities to fundraise for new, less toxic therapies for childhood cancer, the #1 cause of death by disease for children in the U.S. Fowler serves as the organization’s executive director.

The bell ringing celebrated the organization’s most recent research grants, with an eight-year grand total $12.5 million.

The event also marked their largest Challenge Gift Campaign to date. This holiday season, every dollar donated or cookie purchased will be matched up to $250,000. To learn more, visit cookiesforkidscancer.org.
