Lacrosse Coach Chosen to Sound Carolina Hurricanes Pre-Game Siren
- Published
Meredith College Head Lacrosse Coach Lauren Scott was selected to represent the Avenging Angels at the Tuesday, Oct. 30, Carolina Hurricanes game. Scott sounded the pregame warning siren just prior to the opening faceoff.
The tradition began in 2008-09 to give a celebrity, season ticket holder, corporate sponsor, or fan an opportunity to sound the siren to bring the team on the ice. After a brief introduction to the fans, the selected individual cranks the siren for 10 seconds while the Canes enter the rink.
Scott joined the likes of Canes alumni, Super Bowl champions, golf champions, Olympic gold medalists, NFL and MLB players, ACC football and basketball greats, NASCAR drivers, and more.
As one of Meredith’s most decorated coaches of one of the most successful sports programs, Scott represents the college well. A three-time USA South Coach of the Year, Scott’s program has earned five consecutive conference tournament championships with as many NCAA tournament appearances, four conference Rookie of the Year awards, and four Player of the Year honors. The 2016 team secured a place in NCAA Division III history as the National Scoring Offense Statistical Champion.
The 2018 squad captured the program’s first-ever NCAA tournament win in May 2018. Three-time conference Player of the Year and the program’s second Rookie of the Year Carlee Joseph earned the coveted USA South Don Scalf Female Athlete of the Year honor and went on to be named the Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Holly Hite was named a third team All-American and both players garnered All-Region first team honors. Cameron Ruffin joined Joseph as a member of the Division III Senior All-Star team.
The Avenging Angels kick off the 2019 campaign February 16 at Christopher Newport and will face three teams during the season who closed out last spring ranked in the top-15 nationally.
