Hurricane Florence Relief Efforts Continue
- Published
After Hurricane Florence, the Meredith community’s attention turned to supporting those who were affected by the storm.
The Student Government Association Executive Board, Office of Student Leadership and Service, and Office of the Chaplain collaborated to host a campus-wide hurricane relief donation drive. The Office of Alumnae Relations also sponsored a hurricane relief donation drive as a way for alumnae to join in the effort. These combined to generate 1,287 pounds of supplies for the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.
The Office of Student Leadership and Service also coordinated volunteer opportunities on September 19 and 24 at the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. Meredith student volunteers assisted with sorting and preparing hurricane relief donations for distribution.
The SGA Executive Board is in the process of coordinating a restaurant fundraiser to raise money for the American Red Cross Hurricane Florence Relief Fund. The Office of Student Leadership and Service will continue to provide students with opportunities to engage in hurricane relief efforts including during the Sloan Family Leadership and Service Spring Break Trip already planned for Wilmington, N.C.
