The Meredith College soccer team captured the program’s fourth consecutive USA South Regular Season crown as the East Division’s co-champion and earned the privilege of hosting a quarterfinal pairing versus N.C. Wesleyan. The Avenging Angels defeated NCW and traveled to Maryville, Tennessee the following weekend for semifinal action versus the host.
In a thrilling overtime contest, Meredith downed the West’s top-seeded Scots to advance to the finals. Unfortunately, Methodist upset the Angels Saturday evening in another overtime match to end a seven-game winning streak. Seven Avenging Angels earned All-Conference selections.
Volleyball ended a strong season with a quarterfinal loss to rival William Peace. The Avenging Angels won four-of-five five-set conference matches during the season and closed out the schedule with 16 overall wins. Three MCVB Angels earned All-Conference honors for their efforts on the season.
The cross country Avenging Angels finished sixth in the USA South Championship meet with four runners reaching the program’s 6,000 meter top-25 all-time performance list. Macy Brinson advanced up the list to fifth-best and earned All-Conference second team honors with a pace of 34:37.81. Caroline Diorio and Megan Evans improved their top-25 performance rankings, and Allie Bucknam earned the 19th-best overall time.
Basketball will face off with Guilford College in the November 27 home opener just after Thanksgiving, and Meredith track & field will open the indoor season December 2 in Winston-Salem.
