History & Political Science & International Studies Department
As a student in history, political science or international studies, you will gain an understanding of diverse cultures, time periods, and political systems, learning effective skills in research, analysis, critical thinking and communication. Majors apply these skills to explore the problems facing the global community.
Administered by the Department of History and Political Science, The Meredith College Poll is part of the College’s commitment to civic engagement. Students conduct this poll of registered N.C. voters each semester, and gain hands-on polling experience.
This report, released by Meredith College, found that in North Carolina, women make up more than 54% of registered voters, but hold less than 25% of elected and appointed offices. The report uses data about women as voters and elected leaders throughout the state to offer recommendations for improving women’s underrepresentation in politics.
At Meredith, Jennifer Garcia, ’19, has worked toward her longtime aspiration to become an attorney, and each of her experiences has built toward this goal.
Study in North Carolina’s Capital
Meredith’s location in North Carolina’s capital is ideal. Students can see state government in action, intern at historic sites and museums, and explore educational opportunities at international businesses in nearby Research Triangle Park.
