You are not alone. If you have experienced sexual violence, there are resources on and off-campus to support you.

If you have been raped or sexually assaulted you can call 911 or The Solace Center (located at InterAct’s Family Safety and Empowerment Center) at 919.828.3067. If you are not in the Raleigh area, please visit your local emergency room.

If you wish to press charges, a sexual assault forensic examination must be done within 120 hours (5 days) to collect evidence. Survivors age 16 and older and have no injuries that require medical attention are eligible for services at The Solace Center. Those with injuries should seek care at their nearest emergency room and ask for evidence collection to be done.  In order to preserve evidence, do not change your clothes, shower, bathe, douche, or brush your teeth. Save the clothing you wore during the assault in a paper bag or pillowcase. Do not disturb the location where the assault occurred.

InterAct’s sexual assault services and collaborative partnerships ensure that rape and sexual assault survivors are able to access a comprehensive system of care to address all of their emotional, legal, and medical needs.

In addition to evidence collection sexually transmitted infection (STI) testing and treatment for exposure may also be considered. If you are concerned about pregnancy, emergency contraception plan B is available over the counter without restrictions in North Carolina.

The Meredith College Counseling Center and Interact of Wake County offer trauma-informed counseling and support.
