Serving Her Country – Alyssa Codispoti

As a student-athlete, member of the National Guard, and avid participant of Cornhuskin’, Alyssa Codispoti, ’17, truly defines what it means to be “Going Strong” at Meredith College.

With a degree in exercise and sports science and a minor in military science, Alyssa plans to head straight to basic training after graduating in May. When she returns, she will take prerequisites at N.C. State so that she can apply to Meredith’s Master of Science in Nutrition program.

Alyssa is currently involved in the ROTC program at N.C. State and plans to contract as an officer within the next few years. “I decided to pursue the military because I’ve always wanted to belong to something bigger. I like structure and a sense of belonging to a team,” she said. “The National Guard was the perfect fit for me because it allows me to be a student and still serve my country.”

In addition to ROTC and the National Guard, Alyssa is a member of the Meredith lacrosse team through which she earned a First Team All-Conference award and garnered an All-Tournament team honor. She also helped lead her team to four consecutive USA South Conference Tournament Championship titles and four back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Her sister, Maria Codispoti, ’20, is also on the lacrosse team. Together, the Codispoti sisters helped to create the first-ever lacrosse team at Leesville Road High School. It was the first sport they ever played together and now they have the unique opportunity of playing together in college.

“I love having my sister at the same school,” said Alyssa. “Being able to share the experiences and adventures on the lacrosse team with her for my last year here has been amazing.”

Though the many victories Alyssa has experienced on the lacrosse field have made for good memories, she says that winning the Cornhuskin’ competition her junior and senior year were just as exciting. “I’ve participated in this tradition every year that I’ve been at Meredith,” she said. “It’s by far my favorite.”

When Alyssa graduates in May, she will be leaving behind a place she has come to know as “home.” “From the moment I stepped on campus, I just felt like I belonged here,” she said.
