The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES)
As required by the Federal Student Aid Office, U.S. Department of Education, Meredith College reports the following information regarding Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under the CARES Act/HEERF funds on the meredith.edu/staying-strong public website. Subsequent updates to this report are indicated at the posting dates below.
- Meredith College acknowledges that the Certification and Agreement for Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act was signed and returned to the Department of Education on April 21, 2020. Meredith has used no less than 50 percent of the funds received under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.
- Meredith College has received $837,258 from the Department of Education pursuant to the institution’s Certification and Agreement [for] Emergency Financial Aid Grants to Students.
- As of the date of the 30-day Report to the Department, 5/8/2020, Meredith College distributed $837,258, all of the funds received from the Department of Education for the Emergency Financial Aid Grants comprising the Students portion under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act. That same date, Meredith College also distributed as emergency financial aid grants to students the full amount of the Institutional Portion of funds received from the Department of Education, an additional $837,258.
- The estimated total number of students at the institution eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and thus eligible to receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES Act is approximately 1,651. This number includes undergraduate, graduate, full time and part time degree-seeking students.
- The number of students who have received an Emergency Financial Aid Grant to students under Section 18004(a)(1) and 18004(c) of the CARES Act, exhausting both the Student Emergency Financial Aid Grants portion and also the Institutional Portion, is 704.
- Meredith College’s student grant determination was based on criteria outlined in the CARES Act, Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). The method used by the College to determine which students would receive Emergency Financial Aid Grants was to identify those students who had filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and/or who were eligible to file a FAFSA. For eligible students, the individual grant amount related to the disruption because of coronavirus was calculated using an allocation based on rates for housing and/or food, plus considerations for other CARES Act priorities (i.e., technology, course materials, health care, child care), applied over a period of time remaining in the semester after the change to online instruction.

Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA)
The Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA) wasapproved by Congress and signed into law on Dec. 27, 2020. The CRRSAA includes support for higher education, including emergency grants for students who may be struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meredith College received an allocation for emergency financial aid grants to students of $837,258 from the CRRSAA Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II) on January 19, 2021.
1. The estimated total number of students at Meredith eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and therefore eligible to receive an emergency financial aid grant: 2,917. This number includes undergraduate, graduate, full-time and part time degree seeking students.
2. Students enrolled at Meredith from March 13, 2020 until the end of the pandemic disaster declaration were/are eligible for consideration after completing a HEERF application available from the Office of Financial Assistance. HEERF application data was used to determine COVID-19 pandemic’s impact and Free Application for Federal student Aid (FAFSA) data, when available, was/is used to prioritize students with exceptional need.
3. For the quarter ended 6/30/21, Meredith had distributed funds to 70 students. For the quarter ended 9/30/21, funds were distributed to 142 students. For the quarter ended 12/31/21, funds were distributed to 86 students. For the quarter ended 3/31/22, funds were distributed to 40 students.
4. For the quarter ended 6/30/21, Meredith distributed $187,391. For the quarter ended 9/30/21, $371,372 was distributed to students. For the quarter ended 12/31/21, $194,224 was distributed to students. For quarter ended 3/31/22, $84,271 was distributed.
5. Funds were disbursed by students accounts and were used as a pass through to issue checks that were mailed or when indicated on the HEERF application funds were/are disbursed directly to students accounts.
Meredith College received an institutional allocation of $1,574,359 from CRRSAA Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF II) on January 19, 2021. As of June 30, 2021, $1,574,359 has been spent. Expenditures of the institutional allocation include $9,139 for software related to distance learning, $49,775 for Covid related cleaning, $276,148 for lost study abroad revenues, and $1,239,297 for lost revenues from auxiliary services sources as of June 30, 2021.

The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA)
The American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 was approved by Congress and signed into law on March 11, 2021.The ARPA includes support for higher education, including emergency grants for students who may be struggling financially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Meredith College received an allocation of $2,128,640 for emergency financial aid grants to students from ARPA Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF III) on May 16, 2021.
1. The estimated total number of students at Meredith eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 and therefore eligible to receive an emergency financial aid grant: 2,917. This number includes undergraduate, graduate, full-time and part time degree seeking students.
2. 4. For the quarter ended 6/30/2021, Meredith had distributed $0. For the quarter ended 9/30/21, $18,147 was distributed to students. For the quarter ended 12/31/21, $183,788 was distributed to students. For quarter ended 3/31/22, $447,933 was distributed. Meredith will continue to distribute HEERF III emergency funds as funds remain available.

For the quarter ended 6/30/21, $0 had been spent. For the quarter ended 9/30/21, $1,297,712 had been spent. Expenditures of the institutional allocation included $1,297,712 for lost revenues from auxiliary services sources as of June 30, 2021. For the quarters ended 9/30/21,12/31/21, and 3/31/22, there were no expenditures.
