Profile
Professional biography
Dr. William Schmidt teaches general physics and introductory astronomy courses and directs research projects in physics and astronomy. His research interests include physics education and classroom techniques that enhance meaningful learning. His students use creative writing assignments to articulate their own associations and connections in a physics context to help them develop a “physics window” through which they view the world. Dr. Schmidt has given presentations at AAPT meetings on engagement techniques for smaller-sized classes to emphasize the broad skill set necessary for learning physics, and he has articles in The Physics Teacher. Dr. Schmidt joined the Meredith faculty in 2001.
