Profile

A 1975 graduate of Meredith, I returned to Meredith in 1983 to begin teaching in the Department of English and to create a program then called Professional Communications.   I taught introductory courses in composition, as well as British and American literature.  I also taught African-American literature, a course in women’s studies, oversaw research projects and more than 100 internships, and still teach English Poetry of the Romantic Period.  Since 1994, I have been a vice president of the College, working to balance administrative and teaching responsibilities.  Currently I oversee strategic planning and budgeting for those offices reporting to me:  Career Planning, Athletics, Campus Police, Chaplain, Dean of Students (including First Year Experience, Residence Life, Commuter Life, Counseling Center, Diversity Programs, Disability Services), and Student Leadership and Service.

Pauline Davis Perry FAME Award for Excellence in Teaching; Laura Harrill Presidential Award; Meredith Alumna Award;   Meredith Alumnae Recent Graduate Awards; Greater Triangle YWCA Academy of Women Inductee for Education; Charter Inductee, North Carolina 4-H Hall of Fame; recipient for three international travel grants for research in Great Britain; recipient of travel grants for presentations or panels in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; Honolulu, Hawaii, and Oxford, England.    I belong to Phi Kappa Phi; Kappa Nu Sigma; Silver Shield; Theta Alpha Kappa;  and am Patroness, Sigma Alpha Iota.    Frequently I serve as a reviewer for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools—Commission on Colleges.
