Hannah Schneider

As a 2022 graduate whose sophomore year was upended by the Coronavirus pandemic, I am grateful that I had more time on campus at Meredith as an AIR. During my Fall 2022 photography residency at Meredith, I was given the platform and environment to freely experiment and create a large and cohesive body of work that I applied to graduate schools with. I enjoyed being the last individual to make use of Meredith’s darkroom, using the space to create chemigrams, solarized and bleached contact prints, and polaroid lifts. The feedback given from the group critiques and the opportunity to participate in an exhibition was invaluable, and the additional experience gained with teaching assistance will be of great use during my time in graduate school.

Currently

I am an incoming student for Duke University’s MFA in Experimental and Documentary Arts program. For my thesis work, I plan to continue to create experimental pieces that document my experience with being genetically predisposed to blindness due to the rare genetic disorder Bardet Biedl Syndrome.

Future

Following the completion of my MFA in the future, I would like to have a career as a multimedia designer, utilizing my design, photographic, and artistic skills. I see my residency as the catalyst for my independent artistic work that I intend to continue when employed. In addition, I plan to leave the door open for collegiate teaching.
