What Can I Expect at Move-In Day and New Student Orientation?

At Meredith, Move-In Day and New Student Orientation begin this weekend! While you may be excited to start your college journey, you also may be experiencing a few nerves. That’s completely normal. In today’s blog, we go over what you can expect once you arrive on campus. We hope this eases any nerves you may have.

First-Year Students

For first-year students, orientation is a four-day program full of opportunities to connect with staff, faculty, and fellow students. Orientation begins on Saturday, August 17, with those living on campus moving into their residence halls in the morning. Be sure to check the arrival chart for your move-in slot. Commuter students should check in between 2 and 2:45 p.m. in the Cate Center lobby.

Programming begins at 3 p.m. and you can expect a welcome session, a meeting with your student advisor, dinner, and a movie! For the next three days, you will attend required sessions to help you seamlessly transition to college, such as a library tour and strengths training. We also have optional activities such as yoga, pickleball, and a dance party so you can meet other students. On Tuesday, August 20, orientation will conclude with Meredith’s First Day of Class (FDOC) Eve traditions, which include a tour of the President’s residence, dinner and dessert, and the Honor Code Ceremony.

Transfers & Wings

If you’re a transfer or Wings student, you may have had the option to sign up for the fast-track orientation on Tuesday, August 20. This one-day program includes sessions to familiarize yourself with the resources and support on campus. At the end of the day, both orientation groups will come together for the FDOC traditions.
