Victoria Edwards Awarded National Alpha Lambda Delta Scholarships

Victoria ‘Tori’ Edwards, ’19, has been awarded the Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship and the James G. Stemler Study Abroad Scholarship from the national Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Edwards is the first Meredith student to win an Alpha Lambda Delta (ALD) scholarship.

“It is exciting to be the first Meredith student to ever be awarded a national Alpha Lambda Delta scholarship, especially because I love to do things that are novel and original,” said Edwards.

The Washington, N.C., native was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta in spring 2016, and served as chapter president during the 2016-17 academic year. In that role, she helped organize service projects, kept members informed of chapter events, and served as the emcee for the induction ceremony.

“I am honored to be a recipient of the Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate and the James G. Stemler Study Abroad scholarships,” said Edwards. “It is rewarding to find that my hard work has paid off. I am very thankful for the opportunity to be a part of the Alpha Lambda Delta chapter at Meredith and to have served as its president.”

Aside from her involvement with Alpha Lambda Delta, Edwards is an adult and transfer student advisor, where she helps students adjust to life at Meredith. As a public health major, Edwards plans to earn a master’s degree in health administration before working as a director of health services where she can ensure that patients receive quality care in an effective manner.

“Tori is a hard-working student who managed a busy course load and her ALD president duties, including service projects, with precision and a wonderful attitude,” said Angela Smedley, co-director of First Year Experience and co-advisor of Alpha Lambda Delta. “As her ALD advisor, she was a joy to work with and I couldn’t be more proud of her accomplishments. She is a shining example and a wonderful representative for Meredith College.”

The Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship was awarded to 36 students throughout the country, while the James G. Stemler Study Abroad Scholarship was awarded to 20 students nationwide. Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society for first-year students that finish with at least a 3.5 grade point average and in the top 20 percent of their class.
