Two alumnae from Meredith College’s Department of Education were quoted in a recent article from EducationNC (EdNC) titled “Colorblind: North Carolina’s teaching force – like the nation’s – fails to match student demographics.”
Christina Cole Spears, ’13, ’14 (MAT), a third-year special education teacher in Apex, and America Moreno Jimenez, ’14, ’15 (MAT), an English as a Second Language teacher at a Raleigh high school, were interviewed about the need for more diversity among teachers in North Carolina.
The article focused on the fact that despite a rapidly diversifying student body in North Carolina, schools systems are significantly lacking teachers of color. Read the article on EdNC.org.
