Staff Affairs Plan Events in Support of Meredith Athletics

The Staff Affairs Committee is sponsoring opportunities for staff members to attend Meredith Athletics events to build camaraderie while supporting student-athletes.

The committee is sponsoring a mini-tailgate event for each sport this academic year. After the tailgate, participants will go to the game as a group.

The first events are scheduled for the fall:

  • Tuesday, October 22 at 5 p.m. (6 p.m. game) – Field Hockey vs Coker (community game)
  • Wednesday, October 30 at 5 p.m. (6 p.m. game)– Soccer vs William Peace (Halloween tailgate theme)
  • Wednesday, November 6 at 5:30 p.m. (7 p.m. game)– Volleyball vs Salem College

Senior Web Developer and Designer Liza Bunce, who serves on Staff Affairs, said the events have a dual purpose.

“We are hoping to accomplish two things with these tailgates: foster community and support athletics! We want to encourage staff to get to know each other and hopefully build new friendships and relationships with each other, and what better way to do that than with games, fun, and food?,” Bunce said.

The events will also allow employees to support athletics at Meredith.

“By showing up to these games, hopefully, it’ll encourage people to go to more – that’s why we are doing one tailgate per home sport, so people get exposed to more than the ‘usual’ sports,” Bunce said. “Personally, I’ve never been to a field hockey game and I can’t wait to see my first one while rooting for Meredith!”

Staff will receive sign-up details via email closer to the event dates. For the soccer and volleyball tailgates, some team guests are lined up to give participants an overview of the sport.
