Six Student-Athletes Earn USA South Player of the Week Honors

Six Meredith Avenging Angels student-athletes earned USA South Player of the Week honors for the week of April 3, 2023.
Meredith Sinkler, Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week
The Greensboro, N.C., senior defender collected seven caused turnovers and nine ground balls as the Avenging Angels posted a 2-0 record last week against USA South competition. In a 21-13 win over Methodist, Sinkler posted game-highs of five caused turnovers and seven ground balls. In an 11-10 victory at Southern Virginia, Sinkler caused a co-team high two turnovers and grabbed two ground balls.
Reese Walker, Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week
The Fayetteville, N.C., freshman attacker totaled 12 points on six goals and six assists to go along with two ground balls, one draw control, and one caused turnover in a 2-0 week for the Avenging Angels against USA South foes. In a 21-13 win over Methodist, Walker scored three goals with a career-high four assists, one ground ball, and one caused turnover. In an 11-10 victory at Southern Virginia, Walker scored three more times with two assists, including the game-winner with just over a minute remaining, and two draw controls.
Sarah Manis, Softball Player of the Week
The junior outfielder from Wilmington, N.C., was a combined 11-for-20 (.550), with a .609 on-base percentage, and a .750 slugging percentage to go along with six runs scored, two RBI, two doubles, one triple, three walks, and one stolen base as the Avenging Angels posted a 6-0 record against USA South competition last week. In a doubleheader sweep of Brevard, Manis was a combined 2-for-6 with three runs scored, two RBI, one triple, and one walk. In a doubleheader sweep of Salem, Manis was a combined 4-for-7 with two doubles and one walk. Finally, in a doubleheader sweep of William Peace, Manis was a combined 5-for-7 with three runs scored, one walk, and one stolen base.
Lillie Davis, Softball Rookie Pitcher of the Week
The freshman from Roxboro, N.C., earned a 3-0 record with one save in four appearances, three complete games, last week for the Avenging Angels against USA South competition. In 19.2 innings, Davis posted a 0.71 ERA, allowing two runs on seven hits with seven walks and 18 strikeouts. In a 12-0, five-inning, win over Brevard, Davis allowed two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. In a 4-1 victory over Salem, Davis allowed one run on two hits with zero walks and nine strikeouts. In a doubleheader sweep of William Peace, Davis got the win in game one and the save in game two, tossing 7.2 total innings and allowing one run on three hits with five walks and five strikeouts.
Corrine Weaver, Women’s Track Athlete of the Week
The senior from Sanford, N.C., competed at the High Point VertKlasse Invitational last week in the 5,000 meters and broke the program record with a personal best time of 17:28.39. She placed 3rd out of 55 which was where her time would be good for best in the USA South and second in the region.
Carly O’Toole, Women’s Track Rookie of the Week
The freshman from Raleigh, North Carolina competed at the High Point VertKlasse Invitational last week in two events. In the 1,500 meters, O’Toole set a personal best time of 4:51.10. She placed 31st out of 132 with the time being good enough for 3rd in the USA South and 13th in the region. Also she added a 2:25.78 finish in the 800 meters placing 16th out of 83.
