Meredith College raised more than $1 million in just 24 hours during the College’s seventh annual Make It Count for Meredith Giving Day held on February 22, 2022. The fundraising event exceeded its $750,000 fundraising goal by more than $400,000. A total of 2,660 donors contributed $1,167,121 by midnight.
The $750,000 goal was met by 6:40 p.m. and $1 million was raised by 10 p.m. making Giving Day history as the Meredith Fund surpassed $1 million for the first time. Alumnae, parents and families, faculty and staff, friends, and students collectively showed that giving back to the campus community is a worthy investment.
Gifts could be designated to any fund. The Giving Day website highlighted the following funds: athletics, chaplain’s student emergency fund, college’s greatest needs, diversity and equity initiative fund, financial aid/scholarships, study abroad, and student organizations highlighted were the Black Student Union and Spectrum.
Various matching gift challenges throughout the day from alumnae, the Board of Trustees, Meredith parents and families, the Alumnae Association Board of Directors, and the Young Alumnae Board helped motivate donors to give. A daylong competition between the Odd and Even classes showed the competitive spirit of Meredith as well. The Evens won that competition 1,296 to 1,213 over the Odds. The Class of 2001 had the most donors for the Odds. The Class of 1982 had the most donors for the Evens. Overall, the Class of 1976 raised the most money.
This year, donors were asked to make a gift in honor of a strong woman in their life – best friends, sisters, mothers, aunts, mentors, role models. Alumnae were asked to honor their best friend or group of friends made at Meredith.
On social media, videos from President Jo Allen, ʼ80, Erin Cleghorn, director of the Meredith Fund, Hilary Allen, ʼ01, director of Alumnae Relations, alumnae, including Alumnae Association President Courtney Allen, ʼ10, and students updated the audience on giving totals, announced challenges, and encouraged donors to honor a strong woman with their gift.
“We are so grateful for all of our alumnae and friends showing their support in such a tremendous way,” said Erin Cleghorn, director of the Meredith Fund. “These Meredith women never cease to amaze me. It’s a privilege to work with them.”
