Message of Support for Western North Carolina (August 19, 2021)

Dear Meredith Community:

Yesterday, I wrote to you expressing concern for emergency issues around the globe. Since that time, we have learned about the challenging situation caused by unprecedented flooding in Western North Carolina.

Governor Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency for the areas affected, particularly Haywood and Transylvania counties. I have asked our Dean of Students Ann Gleason and her team to contact any Meredith students who are from these areas so we can find out how the College can support them during this time.

We will keep these communities in our thoughts as they clean up and rebuild from the damage caused by remnants of a tropical storm, and we will seek ways to help.

If you or your family is dealing with challenges because of these floods, remember to make use of the resources found at Meredith. Students who need support are encouraged to speak with College Chaplain Stacy Pardue, to make an appointment with the Counseling Center, or to contact the Dean of Students staff. Our Human Resources office and the Chaplain can serve as resources for employees.
