Meredith to Celebrate Completion of 125th Anniversary Year

The Meredith College community will celebrate the completion of the College’s the 125th anniversary year. There are three events planned on Friday, Feb. 24 and Monday, Feb. 27, 2017.
Forward Strong
The Meredith community has a fun opportunity to share its wishes, hopes, and predictions for the College’s future at Forward Strong a special event on Friday, February 24 from 10 a.m. – noon.
During Forward Strong, a video recording booth will be in Cate Center, where the campus community can record brief messages that will be added to the anniversary time capsule. If you did not get a chance to sign up for a time slot and would like to participate, walk-ins will be welcome from 10:15-11:45 a.m. Refreshments, including a popcorn bar with a variety of toppings, will also be available in Cate Center lobby.
Founders’ Day Celebration
On Founders’ Day, Monday, February 27, a closing celebration will be held at 10 a.m.
This event will feature the presentation of the 125th anniversary time capsule, the unveiling of a new Thomas Meredith marker, and remarks from President Jo Allen. A reception will follow in the Johnson Hall Rotunda.
Elaine F. Marshall
2017 Meredith College Woman of Achievement Lecture
N.C. Secretary of State Elaine F. Marshall is the recipient of Meredith College’s 2017 Woman of Achievement award. Marshall will speak about her career of service in a public event on Monday, February 27, 2017, at 7 p.m. in Jones Auditorium.
The Woman of Achievement event is presented in observance of Founders’ Day by The Presidential Lecture Series at Meredith College and by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina. The Woman of Achievement event is free and open to the public. For Meredith students, this lecture qualifies as an academic/cultural event in General Education.
The College observed its 125th anniversary in February 2016 with a series of special events. This weeklong celebration included a 125th anniversary convocation address about Thomas Meredith presented by Professor Emeritus Roger Crook. Other highlights were a Meredith College exhibit at The City of Raleigh Museum, a poetry contest, and the unveiling of a new historical marker and a new Meredith flag. Meredith also held its first 24 Hour Giving Day. The week ended with the announcement of the goal for Beyond Strong | The Campaign for Meredith.
