Carly O’Toole, ’26, and Sarah Shelton, ’25, were recently awarded scholarships by Alpha Delta Lamba (ALD), an honor society that recognizes students’ academic success during their first year in college.
O’Toole, who served as the ALD chapter president in 2023-24, received the Jo Anne J. Trow Undergraduate Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. ALD awards the prestigious scholarship to 50 students each year to help offset educational expenses. Candidates are considered based on several factors, including GPA, academic records, campus and ALD participation, and essay answers.
When asked about her experience with ALD, O’Toole said, “ALD has introduced me to other students who share the same passion for learning and growth as me. It’s been encouraging to have similar students by my side throughout my college experience and I’m thankful for the opportunities and ideas we have shared.”
Shelton, an interior design major, received the James G. Stemler Study Abroad Scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Based on merit, 20 students are selected each year for the study abroad scholarship.
“I hope to gain a life-changing experience that teaches me independence, leadership, and confidence that I can apply to my college and professional career,” said Shelton about her upcoming study abroad in Italy. “The goal of this trip is to immerse myself in a new culture while exploring art and architecture that I have learned about in textbooks.”
