On Nov. 4, Meredith College’s Undergraduate Research Program held its Taste of Research event for the first time since the pandemic.
“We brought back Taste of Research because it’s an opportunity to celebrate students and their work,” said Director of Undergraduate Research Whitney Ross Manzo. “It also shows the campus community what the Program is about. A lot of people think that research has to be done in a lab with chemicals but it can be done for history, language, or any subject.”
Located in the Carlyle Campbell Library, the event consisted of three oral and seven poster presentations. Research topics included Abracadabra! Using Magic to Create Flashbulb Memories; Extraction, Spectral Characterization, and Chromatographic Analysis of Passion Flower Components; House mice (Mus musculus) T-haplotype detection and fieldwork in sex-biased enclosures.
“My experience with research has helped me develop skills like writing an abstract and communicating with professionals,” said Erandi Garcia Vazquez, ’26, who is studying biology and chemistry. “I was able to work with graduate students and professors and perform hands-on activities with them instead of observing.”
