Meredith College has rolled out a new, comprehensive campus calendar on its website, meredith.edu. The calendar is a significant improvement from the previous iteration with the addition of visuals, a robust search function, a rotating “featured event,” and more.
The calendar upgrade was an area of emphasis by Meredith’s new President, Aimee Sapp, who wanted to highlight the numerous and varied activities taking place on campus.
Vice President for Marketing and Communications Kristi Eaves-McLennan said the new calendar is a welcome addition to the College website.
“We’ve had a campus calendar for years, but it was never fully adopted by our community because it didn’t really reflect all that was happening on campus,” said Eaves-McLennan. “This time it feels like we’ve found the secret sauce that’s allowing us to provide a fuller picture of our community – and I only expect it to get better as more people come to rely on it, both to find out what’s happening on campus and to help promote events.”
A Community Effort – and Asset
Website visitors can access the calendar using QuickLinks in the top navigation; events are also shown on the website’s homepage. Website analytics show that users can find the calendar easily and explore future events.
Event listings for the calendar come from faculty, staff, and students across campus. Most are submitted using the Calendar Submission Form on MyMeredith, the College’s intranet. Calendar Submission Guidelines are included on the form so that community members can determine whether their event is appropriate for the calendar. According to the guidelines, events submitted to the calendar should be sponsored by a school, department, program, etc. and be open to members of our campus community and the public.
Diane Burke, office manager for the Department of Marketing, maintains the calendar with support from members of the Marketing team. She draws on her connections across campus, reaching out to colleagues monthly to request submissions, and takes the initiative to input athletic meets and other events she hears about. According to Burke, the response to the new calendar has been extremely positive.
“Adding the photos has made it much more inviting,” she said. “You can see at a glance that we have a lot of things happening on campus.”
