Meredith Holds Successful National Voter Registration Day Event

Meredith College held a Voter Registration and Information Fair on September 17, 2024, as part of National Voter Registration Day.
During the event, campus community members could register to vote, change their voter registration, or get information on the 2024 election.
The registration event was successful, with 41 new voters getting registered. An additional 20 new voters registered during another Meredith Votes event in August.
“These two events gave us the highest number of new registrations we have had since I have been at Meredith,” said Professor of Political Science David McLennan, who helped organize the event. “We will continue helping any member of the Meredith community to register to vote before the October 11 deadline.”
During the September 17 event, 150 members of the Meredith community pledged to vote in 2024, which McLennan said was another all-time high.
Meredith College students have a strong history of political participation. In 2020 and 2022, Meredith students had the highest percentage of eligible students being registered to vote and actually voting of any college or university in North Carolina. In 2022, 88% of eligible students registered to vote, and in 2020, over 63% of Meredith students voted in the presidential election.
