Meredith College to Welcome the Class of 2021

Move-In Day for Meredith’s Class of 2021 will be held on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2017, when the College will welcome approximately 400 new first-year students.

Members of the first-year class come from 17 states and four countries, including Croatia, Indonesia, Kenya, and Singapore. When the new academic year begins on August 23, Meredith expects more than 650 new undergraduate and graduate students. The College’s total student population is expected to be around 1,900 students.

Residence Life staff are already involved in training as Move-In Day approaches.

“As professional staff members, [Residence Directors] are in training for two weeks prior to resident assistant (RA) arrival.  We work with various campus offices to learn more about the resources students have on campus.  Then we spend another week working intensely with our RAs making sure they are prepared to guide and assist residents throughout the year,” said Faircloth Residence Director Rachel Downey.

Move-In Day is a favorite of residence life staff, including the resident assistants who help serve their fellow students.

“Move-In Day is very special at Meredith College. It is full of welcoming faces who will help these students throughout their experience at Meredith,” said Resident Assistant Emma Lee Bridgers, ’18. “Our goal is for the residence hall to be a home away from home.”

During Faculty/Staff Planning Week, which will be held August 14-18, student leaders will also be on campus for training.

Meg Sink, who serves as chief student advisor, explains how this work by student leaders benefits new arrivals.

“Throughout this training week, student leaders engage in sessions that focus on different aspects of leadership that are more specific to Meredith. These sessions include an introduction to peer advising, refreshers on Strengths and Meredith StrongPoints, Jeopardy with Meredith-themed questions, situational analysis, and finally, a Pep Rally Lunch to get everyone pumped up and excited,” Sink said. “Student leaders are also encouraged to look back on their first year at Meredith so that they can better connect with and help the incoming students.”
