Meredith Alumna Named 2025 Wake County Teacher of the Year

Meredith College alumna Macy Brinson, ’19, has been named the 2025 Wake County Public School System Teacher of the Year. She is a physical education teacher at Kingswood Magnet Elementary in Cary.

Brinson holds a B.A. in Exercise and Sports Science with a concentration in K-12 Physical Education from Meredith College and a master’s degree in kinesiology from the University of North Georgia.

At Meredith, Brinson was a Teaching Fellow and a student-athlete on the cross country and track and field teams.

Brinson continues to be an active member of Meredith’s academic community. She is an adjunct instructor in Meredith’s Physical Learning program, and also served as a cooperating teacher for a Meredith student teacher this academic year.

Meredith faculty members are proud of Brinson’s accomplishments as a teacher.

“Macy Brinson is a fabulous teacher because she finds ways to engage all students in her classroom. She creates a safe space to move and have fun–even if you don’t think you are an athlete,” said Heather Bower, associate professor and chair of Meredith’s Department of Education. “She creates events for the whole school community and provides opportunities for students to move and be healthy outside of the P.E. classroom.”

Associate Professor and Health and Physical Education Coordinator Stephanie Little also praises Brinson.

“Macy was one of the best students I’ve had the opportunity to work with in our Health and Physical Education licensure program,” Little said. “It was apparent in her student teaching experience that she was going to make a difference in the lives of her future students. She makes movement and learning about physical activity meaningful and fun for all her students.”

Meredith College has a long history of educating strong teachers. Meredith’s education program equips teachers with both theory and practical experiences in real classrooms with excellent mentor teachers.

“Our graduates have a deep understanding of both best practices and the significance of their role as professional educators,” said Bower.
