Line Dancing Events Bring Fun to Campus

The Meredith College StrongPoints® Office, in partnership with Human Resources and the Dance and Theatre Department, hosted a number of line dancing events on campus this past semester.

Students, faculty, and staff were invited to three events full of good music, dancing, and community building.

The idea stemmed from Camp Daisy, an event at orientation. “We had line dancing [and] that was a huge hit. Students asked if we could have it more often, and here we are today!” said Emily Caldwell, director of the StrongPoints program.

Caldwell, who learned to line dance a year ago, used her strengths to lead the dances. “Getting people up and out of their seats, watching them smile, laugh, and feel comfortable trying something new” is what she enjoyed most.

“Seeing students and employees return month after month confirmed that these dances meet a real need for connection and movement on campus,” said Caldwell. “My Woo and Positivity thrive when I can bring people together in such a positive, fun way.”

Songs included: The Electric Slide, Church Clap, Fireball, and Boots on the Ground

Given busy schedules, Caldwell said these events allowed people to come together in a fun, interactive way.

“I think participants walked away with a sense of community, connection, and a little sweat. It gives students and employees a chance to put down their books and laptops, take a break from stress, and move together. The events also reinforce wellbeing.”

According to Caldwell, line dancing will be back in the spring semester. For more information on future line dancing activities and other community-building events, visit meredith.edu/calendar.
