In this issue we celebrate accomplishments of faculty and staff in business, counseling, English, international programs, marketing and nursing. We also share news briefs about proper disposal of accommodation letters and news about an award won by our student Sport Science Association.

Amy Bisset, operations coordinator in the Office of International Programs, was featured on the NC State website in recognition of her recent completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership in the Public Sector, which she earned through their online bachelor’s program. Bisset will begin her MBA at Meredith in the fall.

Instructor of English Heather Frese will participate in a reading with poet Bridget Bell at So-and-So Books on Friday, May 30 at 7 p.m. Bell, a recent visiting author at Meredith, will read from her debut poetry collection, All That We Ask Of You Is To Always Be Happy, which was called an “urgent, cleareyed debut” by the New York Times Book Review. So-and-So Books is an independent bookstore located at 719 North Person Street in downtown Raleigh.

Associate Professor of Nursing Michelle Hartman and colleagues had an article published in Teaching and Learning in Nursing. The article is titled Promoting self-regulated learning: Enhancing psychomotor skills acquisition with a learning passport. Hartman also completed the iTEACH (Innovation in Training Nurse Educators in Assessment, Competency, Evaluation, and High-Quality Simulation) microcredential this semester.

Assistant Director of the Counseling Center Cassidi Long and Counselor Jeremy Dela Paz presented “Rising Above: Advocating for BIPOC Students as DEI is under Fire” during the first Counselors for Social Justice (CSJ) conference hosted in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The presentation addressed the critical needs of BIPOC students attending predominantly white institutions and the pivotal role of counselors as support, intermediaries, and advocates. They are offering this session to Meredith faculty and staff during PIE.

Dr. Bing Yu, professor of finance and faculty advisor of the Meredith Student Investment Fund, and six students from the Meredith Student Investment Fund club attended the Global Assets Management Education Forum, the world’s largest student-run financial conference, held in New York City on April 3-4, 2025. During the conference, Meredith students participated in various workshops and breakout sessions based on their interests. Those workshops and sessions covered a wide range of topics in finance and investment, such as asset allocation, portfolio management, AI and FinTech, women in finance, crypto assets, and hedge funds. Interestingly, all Meredith student attendees attended the Women in Finance workshop, where female executives from major financial companies provided advice to female students and offered mentorship opportunities. Throughout the conference, Meredith students also attended several post-college career networking events, met with company representatives, and built connections with financial professionals. The conference concluded with the announcement of the student-run investment fund competition awards.

Progress Printing, which prints Meredith Magazine, featured Meredith College photos in a sample calendar that was sent to its customer base. Meredith campus images were featured for April and November, using photos taken by photographers from the Department of Marketing.

A Message from Disability Services Regarding Proper Disposal of Accomodation Letters
As we close out the semester, Disability Services would like to remind all faculty to securely dispose of any student accommodation letters you may have retained. Please take a moment to shred any physical copies and delete any electronic versions of these letters from your devices and email folders. A shred bin is located in each building for your convenience.

If you anticipate having a student again, there is no need to keep their accommodation letter. Students are required to provide a new accommodation letter for each course.

Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Doing so helps ensure we remain in compliance with FERPA guidelines and uphold our commitment to student privacy. Please reach out to DisabilityServices@meredith.edu if you have any questions. Have a wonderful summer! — The Disability Services Team
