Faculty/Staff Accomplishments and News Briefs 10/4/23

In this issue, we share the accomplishments of faculty and staff in dance, hospitality and tourism management, political science, and psychology.

Michael Altman, Hospitality and Tourism Management Program Director and Instructor, has been named to the board of directors for Meals of Wheels of Wake County. Altman has delivered for the organization for two years. Assistant Professor of Food and Nutrition Rachel Findley serves as board chair.

Professor of Dance Carol Finley and Assistant Professor of Dance Courtney White will perform their duet “Misfortunes” at the North Carolina Dance Festival in Charlotte, N.C., on October 6-7. They were selected along with three other North Carolina Artists to show their work at the Goodyear Arts Center.  “Misfortunes” is a collaborative duet on stationary bikes that employs humor to challenge competition culture in group fitness environments and ask us to consider the randomness of what comes our way. It is excerpted from their evening-length work, “The Fortune Suite” presented at Meredith in January 2023.

Associate Professor of Political Science Jeff Martinson was quoted in an Associated Press article about the United Nations General Assembly. “Behind all the speechmaking at the UN lies a basic, unspoken question: Is the world governable?” was published on September 21, 2023.

Associate Professor of I-O Psychology Joseph Mazzola recently had a book review published in the journal Personnel Psychology titled “Book Review: Flexible Working Practices and Approaches.”
