In this issue, we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty and staff in, art, communication, and English. We also share news about the Graduate Nutrition Students’ Food Drive and Chaplain’s Office Winter Wardrobe project.
Heather Frese, English Department, has a short story appearing in the book The Devil’s Done Come Back: New Ghost Tales from North Carolina. Fifteen contemporary North Carolina authors compile reimagined ghost tales from all corners of the state in this anthology that’s releasing just in time for Halloween. Frese’s story is a new take on the legend of Blackbeard.
Associate Professor of Art Emily Howard has artwork featured in the Southeast Fiber Educator Association (SEFEA) exhibition, Archiving Place, at the Greenville Museum of Art. The exhibit runs from October 3, 2025 – March 14, 2026, in the West Wing and Commons Galleries, with the Opening Reception on Friday, October 3, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Greenville Museum of Art is located at 802 Evans Street in Greenville, N.C.
Dr. Lynn Owens, Associate Professor of Communication, was named a recipient of the Television Academy’s 2025 Alex Trebek Legacy Fellowship, created in honor of the late “Jeopardy!” host. The Academy will send Owens to Los Angeles to attend the Media Educators Conference in October. There, educators will learn from media professionals, creators, and top Hollywood executives about the latest trends and skills in the industry.

Graduate Nutrition Students Host Campus-wide Food Drive
Graduate students in Meredith’s nutrition program are hosting a campus-wide food drive during October to support students on campus experiencing food insecurity. Donation boxes will be located throughout campus and will benefit both the Daisy Trade and the Martin food pantry. A list of needed items will be included on or near the donation boxes. Thank you for your support in our efforts!
Chaplain’s Office Collecting Cold Weather Wear for Winter Wardrobe Project
The College Chaplain’s Office is collecting gently used outerwear, pants, sweaters, and boots for the Winter Wardrobe project supporting students. Donations may be placed either in the chapel kitchen, Daisy Trade (open Wednesdays noon-5, Thursdays 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m.-6 p.m.), in the chapel common room, or the adjacent storage room where the Winter Wardrobe is located.
