In this issue we celebrate the accomplishments of faculty and staff from the departments of art, child development, education and music. We also share information about the College’s participation in tuition exchange programs.
Assistant Professor of Child Development Fain Barker presented a session titled “Parent-Implemented Infant Signing Intervention in the Natural Environment” at the North Carolina Association for the Education of Young Children conference in Raleigh on September 16
Faculty in Education presented at the 35th Annual Teacher Education Forum in Raleigh September 21 and 22. Professor of Education Mary Kay Delaney and Teaching Fellows Director Heather Bower presented “Following into the Field: An ongoing case study of novice teachers.” Associate Professor of Education Cece Toole and Associate Professor of Education Tisha Duncan presented with two former M.Ed. students Jennifer Hall and Jennifer Miske on “The Benefits of Long-term Collaborative Partnerships.”
Professor of Graphic Design Dana Ezzell’s work is featured in an exhibition at USC Upstate in Spartanburg, S.C. The exhibition, Envision: In the Presence of Words, is a selection of Ezzell’s recent typographic works, which she describes as “typographic landscapes.” The exhibition is on view in the Curtis R. Harley Art Gallery through October 25. Her work has been featured in multiple publications, including Print Magazine, American Corporate Identity, and the Big Book of Logos 4.
Associate Professor Woody Holliman will be presenting at this year’s SECAC Conference (for art and design educators) in Columbus, Ohio. His talk, “The Guerrilla Guide to Job Hunting (for Designers),” will describe his unorthodox methods for helping students find internships and jobs in the graphic design industry.
Virginia Ewing Hudson, instructor of cello, is the 2017 winner of the Thomas Wolfe Fiction Prize. The winning story, “Mother,” will be published in The Thomas Wolfe Review. Hudson began her writing career by participating in Meredith’s on-campus workshops led by June Spence and Angela Davis-Gardner. Her first publications were in The Colton Review.
