The Meredith Autism Program (MAP) is accepting applications for the Explorers Inclusive Preschool Classroom, its half-day, play-based program that integrates neurotypical peers alongside learners with autism.
The program is open to children between the ages of 3-5 without any diagnosis.
MAP Associate Director Crystal Lester says the program is a high-quality option for local families.
“Our program is strongly supportive of social-emotional development,” Lester said. “It’s a small class size with a low student-to-teacher ratio, which we’ve found allows all children to develop confidence and thrive in their learning and relationship building.”
The inclusive classroom allows MAP to create an intentional learning space that is beneficial to all students.
“MAP students can practice social, communication, and adaptive skills that are highlighted in their individualized treatment plans alongside neurotypical children,” Lester said. “Having this classroom also gives our kids a place to prepare for future educational settings.”
Inclusive learning environments foster empathy, communication, and flexibility.
“It’s a place that allows all children to learn how to work closely with others who learn differently,” Lester said. “By the end of the school year, we believe everyone in that classroom has an authentic, real-life experience to embrace differences and know that being different doesn’t mean you are less than someone else.”
Enrollment is now open for Explorers Preschool for a school term that runs from August 31, 2026, through May 21, 2027. A monthly tuition discount is available for Meredith faculty/staff.
