December Events Engage Alumnae, Students, and Donors

The Office of Institutional Advancement held events in December for students, alumnae, and donors. Each unique event is a way to show these audiences how much Meredith treasures their commitment to the institution.
Student events included a new initiative started by a group of alumnae called Onyx Connections. Alumnae came to campus on December 2 to pass out sweet treats to students in the hopes of giving them a boost before exams. Muffins, cakes, cookies, candy, and popcorn brought smiles to students and gave them the chance to speak with alumnae.
Other student events for the month included the Last Day of Class event for the 1891 Club. This student organization was created by the Alumnae Association to help current students prepare for lifelong relationships with the College as partners, advocates, and investors.
On December 8, Meredith College hosted its annual Holiday Tea and Concert for lifetime and annual giving societies. Organized by Institutional Advancement, the event took place in the Johnson Hall Rotunda. Over 80 donors gathered to enjoy tea, sweets, and a private concert featuring student performers selected by Jeanie Wozencraft-Ornellas, head of the music department and professor. After the reception, guests attended the larger Holiday Concert in Jones Auditorium, where Meredith College student music groups performed, and the audience joined in a carol sing-along.
“We look forward to this event every year. Most attendees say it marks the beginning of their holiday season. We’re happy to have the honor of kicking off a time filled with festive cheer and celebrations,” said Astra Ball, Director of Advancement Services.
Alumnae had many opportunities to attend Meredith events in December. One that is always well attended is the Afternoon with Santa held in the Rotunda. Over 135 alumnae brought their children to tell Santa their wishes.
Five Angel Exchange events were held for alumnae in Greensboro, Charlotte, Clinton, Northeast Wake County, and New Bern. Alumnae gathered for fellowship and an ornament exchange, giving them time to connect over their shared Meredith College bonds. A Holiday Sip and Shop was also hosted by ColorPop Paper Company in Benson, N.C. Alumnae could bring a friend to shop and enjoy all the fun items at the new store owned by Abbey Butler, ‘24.
The Alumnae Association’s last event of the year was a performance of A Christmas Carol at the Durham Performing Arts Center on December 22.
Alumnae: Make sure your contact information is updated for the new year. The College will be hosting alumnae events, additional President Sapp welcome receptions, Giving Day on February 25, and Reunion Weekend.
