Culinary Showcase Features Women Chefs

Meredith’s Campus Dining put a culinary spin on Women’s History Month on March 6 with a Women Who Lead showcase of female chefs.

Held from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. in Belk Dining Hall, the event was a spotlight on some of Aramark’s most talented women chefs. Dining staff from Aramark schools including Meredith, James Madison, North Carolina Central, Western Carolina, Carolina Dining Services, and Aramark Harvest Table schools including Wake Forest, Highpoint, and Elon University, participated. Each station in the dining hall featured tasting samples from the guest chefs.

Director of Dining Jayme Aimalefoa said the showcase was also a Women’s History Month commemoration. “This is a special celebration honoring the strength, talent, and impact of the amazing Meredith College women who inspire us every day,” said Aimalefoa.

Leah SandersonOne of the participating chefs was Meredith graduate student Leah Sanderson, ’27.

“This is my last day for my food service rotation for my Master’s in Accelerated Dietitian Nutritionist Track, and this experience has been great,” said Sanderson. “I love that various women chefs are here today, and so grateful I could do this.”

Campus community members enjoyed the celebration. “I loved getting to see the focus on women in the culinary field, especially showcasing those who were taught at Meredith,” said Kaitlin Toxey, a Marketing & Communications staff member.

President Aimee Sapp praised Aimalefoa for her work leading Dining Services at Meredith.

“This was not just an amazing meal and a celebration of women in leadership; it was also the perfect example of Jayme Aimalefoa’s creativity and care for our students,” Sapp said.
