Annual Celebrating Student Achievement Day Held

Celebrating Student Achievement (CSA) Day is a longtime tradition at Meredith College during which students share the results of their undergraduate research and creative projects. The 2017 event was held on Tuesday, April 11.
In her welcome message, President Jo Allen called CSA Day a highlight of the Meredith academic year. “It is our opportunity to showcase the quality of intellectual curiosity and creativity that surround us every day,” Allen said. “Our students display remarkable talent, and we proudly showcase their work.”
CSA Day opened with a poster session in Carlyle Campbell Library that provided an opportunity for the campus community to speak with students directly about their research projects.
CSA Day is a “celebration during which we experience the results of hard work done by students,” said Provost Matthew Poslusny. “The day is about our students and what they have accomplished in academics or co-curricular areas.”
The day also featured morning and afternoon conference sessions on topics ranging from “Psychology: Perceptions, Emotions, Attitudes and Performance” and “English Literature, Film, and Visual Art” to “Geoscience: Environmental Features and Change” and “Textiles, Performance and Management.”
One of the presentation sessions focused on History and Political Science topics related to North Carolina and Meredith College. This included presentations on the impact of women on county boards of commission in North Carolina, a review of the history of Meredith’s Dual Degree Engineering Program, and a look at the contributions made by suffragists at Meredith and in North Carolina.
The history of the suffrage movement at Meredith and in North Carolina was presented by the History and Politics Club, providing an opportunity to “show how politically involved Meredith women were and continue to be,” said Ann Cox, club president.
Other highlights included a student fashion show, a performance by the Meredith Sinfonietta, and a native plant recipe tasting at Three Sisters’ Garden. Departmental award events were scheduled into the evening hours, making Celebrating Student Achievement Day a full day of recognition of the many ways Meredith College students are Going Strong.
