Altman Appointed to Lead New Hospitality Program at Meredith College

Michael Altman has been hired to serve as Meredith College’s first full-time hospitality management faculty member.

Altman, who brings more than 20 years of experience in hospitality, tourism, and marketing, will provide leadership for the new program. He will begin teaching courses in hospitality management, special event planning, hospitality marketing and sales, and hotel and resort management in Fall 2019.

The new hospitality management program is a collaboration between Meredith’s AACSB accredited business program and its ACEND accredited nutrition program. Students earning a Bachelor of Science in hospitality management will be able to select from three concentration options: culinary management, hotel and lodging management, or event planning.

Altman is a co-founder of the branding, design and communications firm Trialogue Studio, which has provided consulting services to numerous organizations, including Marbles Kids Museum, Visit Raleigh, Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance, and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Science. He previously served as chief marketing officer at the Smithsonian Institution and head of communications and marketing at IMAX Corporation.

Prior to joining Meredith, Altman was adjunct professor for two years at Georgetown University in both the Global Hospitality Leadership and Integrated Marketing Communications Programs. He previously served for seven years as adjunct professor at George Washington University in the Master of Tourism Administration Program, teaching courses in applied strategic planning and destination marketing and consulting for their International Institute for Tourism Studies.

Altman holds an M.S. in hospitality and tourism studies from Rochester Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from York University.
