Entering the Field of Financial Crime Prevention – Brooks Gaster

“I wanted to study criminal justice as a way to bridge my background in finance with a career in financial crime prevention. I chose Meredith because of the fully online option which allowed me to work full-time while pursuing my master’s degree.

I am currently a financial crime prevention quality assurance testing officer at UBS Bank. My team and I review hundreds of transaction monitoring cases a month as well as investigations into fraud, market conduct, sanction violation, and more. The typical process involves reviewing and closing these alerts and assessing the percentage of alerts that have been correctly closed. We then write reports to indicate the standard of risk at which the bank is operating.

My favorite strength is my attention to detail. It is vital for success in my current position and was developed at Meredith with a focus on technical writing and the ability to argue and defend professional opinions with logical reasoning and facts.

Communication and timeliness were two important skills the master’s program emphasized. These skills translate effortlessly into the workplace when it comes to working with a team and meeting deadlines.
