If you’re starting college in the fall, you’ve probably heard the term FAFSA thrown out a lot. But what is the FAFSA, and why does it matter? In today’s blog, we discuss why completing the FAFSA is essential.
The FAFSA, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is a crucial part of your college preparation, and can be a necessity when it comes to financing a college education. It is the only way to access all the financial resources available to you. In general, college financial aid offices use the FAFSA to determine whether you qualify for some types of scholarships and all types of need-based federal, state, and college grants.
Even if you don’t think you will need to take advantage of these resources, it never hurts to keep your options open. You and your family should complete the FAFSA on studentaid.gov by Meredith’s priority deadline of February 28 to maximize your financial aid package.
