As you go about your college search, there are likely many factors you’re taking into consideration, including a college’s career preparation resources. After all, a strong college education should help you succeed beyond graduation. Developing professional skills during your time at college will set you up to be a strong candidate for jobs and successfully enter the workforce.
As you research different colleges, know that a good career planning office will offer a variety of resources. In today’s blog, we discuss some of the many ways our Office of Career Planning (OCP) will help you grow professionally.
Strong communication skills are essential in the job application process and the workplace. The OCP understands it can be difficult for students to talk about themselves, their strengths, and the value they can bring to an organization. That’s why the office focuses heavily on equipping you with the vocabulary they need to communicate their strengths and abilities.
As a student, you can take advantage of mock interviews and resume blitzes to practice and improve your written and oral communication skills – and then apply those skills with employers at OCP-hosted career fairs! This year, the OCP is offering new events that help students develop career-ready communication skills, including workshops and an employer panel.
Connections can be incredibly beneficial when landing jobs and internships. In addition to having a large network of alumnae, Meredith has strong connections with employers. Many employers actively seek Meredith students and graduates because they recognize Meredith’s strong reputation. The OCP also works to build relationships with employers and plan events for students and employers to meet, such as career fests and treks.
One of the unique perks of Meredith’s OCP is that they extend their services beyond graduation. That means that at any point in your career, the OCP will be there to help you. As an alumna, you’ll continue to receive career counseling, graduate study application assistance, and interview preparation as well as be invited to career fests.
